Manley Highlights New Law Strengthening Workplace Rights Bureau

JOLIET, Ill. – Building on her efforts to support working families, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, is highlighting a new law that will further strengthen the Illinois Attorney General’s Workplace Rights Bureau, close loopholes and hold bad actors accountable.

“The Workplace Rights Bureau protects and advances employment rights for all Illinoisans, and is an important voice for our most vulnerable workers,” Manley said. “This legislation fulfills recommendations from the Attorney General’s team and strengthens their ability to make workplaces safer, target wage theft and address other concerns.”

The Attorney General’s Workplace Rights Bureau investigates and litigates cases involving serious or persistent breaches of workplace safety, wage law violations and other unfair employment practices.

The bipartisan, Manley-backed House Bill 4725 strengthens investigative tools, clarifies the bureau’s jurisdiction, streamlines subpoena procedures and institutes needed penalties to stop those who destroy evidence or refuse to comply with the law.
